Hi, we're the couple behind Finch Holm.
We started Finch Holm in Austria a little over a year ago, because we missed the feeling of taking photos with a real little camera.
This page is the short version of how a flea market find turned into a small shop for retro cameras, and why we still run it the way we do.
It started with a camera from a flea market box
On a Saturday morning at a flea market in Vienna, we found a small old point-and-shoot at the bottom of a crate and bought it for twelve euros, mostly because it looked nice.
We took it on a weekend trip to the mountains, and the photos it gave us felt more like that trip than anything we had on our phones.
Our phones were full of photos we never looked at
We had thousands of pictures on our phones and hardly ever opened them, while every shot on the old camera was a moment we had actually stopped for. So we went looking for a small, modern camera that gave us the same feeling without film to buy and develop.
By winter our kitchen table was covered in samples, and we carried every one of them on walks and weekend trips to see which ones we kept reaching for.
The one we kept reaching for became Pikko
In the end one little camera won. It is small enough to hang on a keychain, and the photos come out warm and a little dreamy, a lot like the ones from our flea market find.
We named it Pikko and opened Finch Holm so other people could have one too.
A year later, most of our cameras end up as gifts
Finch Holm is still the two of us. We choose every product together and answer every email ourselves, and we only add a camera after it has been on our own trips.
What we didn't expect is how many of them are bought as presents, for a child's birthday or for a friend who is about to travel. We honestly can't think of a nicer reason to buy one.

Every photo here came straight off the memory card of the cameras we sell, mostly from days out in Vienna and a trip to the Côte d'Azur. Nothing is filtered or edited.

Why the name Finch Holm?
A finch is a small, curious bird that notices everything, and a holm is an old word for a small island. Put together, it felt like the right name for a little shop full of little cameras.
